Chasing with many balls improving reaction, orientation and differentiation

great warm-up game, improving judgement of the bounce of balls and great exercise too
coach tries to shoot down kids with foam balls or bigger balls kicked along the floor

each kid has 5 lifes and looses one if hit with a foamball & 2 if touched by a basketball

the older the kids, the more balls I use to keep them very active and

improving orientation if more than one ball is moving at any one  moment

with older kids give different rules if hit with different balls, if hit with a basketball, they loose 2 lives

Squashcannon: aiming into hoops for kids

kids try to hit the ball into one of the designated hoops. Hoops have an ideal size to hit into for kids as they are fairly large. It's easy to attach them to the frontwall with a  piece of tape

Squashcannon: pick up drop shots that cling to the sidewall

the goal is to retrieve short balls that cling to the sidewall

the follow-through for these shots often has to be quite aggressive to be able to scratch balls off the walls

common problems are getting too close to the wall which often doesn't allow to finish the swing

or leads to moving away while trying to hit the ball, missing it

altogether

maintaining a balance at the right distance is critical to be able to scratch these tight shots of the wall

Catching a table tennis ball with a badminton shuttle

to improve hand-eye coordination, kids try to catch a table tennis ball in a badminton shuttle

the higher you throw the ball the more difficult to catch

throw the ball away from you and catch it after one bounce

throw the table tennis ball against a wall and catch it after one bounce

or several bounces if one bounce is too difficult

pop the table tennis ball out of the shuttle by squeezing it together and try to catch it again

throw the table tennis ball against a wall and catch it in the air with the shuttle

Balloon hitting against the wall to improve racquet handling

hit a balloon against any wall without it dropping on the ground

smaller balloons are used for the the more advanced kids

ideally balloons are hit to the side of the body

Squash training for advanced beginner clinic: positioning

Improving position for longline and boast

students have to hit 2 successive shots, strait down the line then boast

they should start on the T initially.

coach feeds a cross coming off the sidewall which is a difficult ball to judge

2 backhands should be played

students need to create enough space for the first shot to be able to maintain a balance

the main goal is correct positioning, moving next to the ball for the strait shot an position yourself in the front of the ball for the boast

Squash tips for kids: combining racquet handling with balance

kids keep the balloon up in the air by hitting it up with their hands

while standing on a bosu ball or any other wobbly surface

they are improving both hand-eye coordination and balance at the same time

kids try to get as many repetitions as possible while standing on the wobbly surface

if they fall off, they have to switch with their partner

, who can get the most repetitions

now using the racquet, keep the

balloon up in the air until you fall off

have kids try all exercises with both

Squash video clips: improve racquet work bouncing the ball floor/frontwall

Rally floor front wall to encourage moving your feet & to get into a sideways position

the ball is hit onto the floor first to then hit the frontwall

keep a rally going either hitting the ball volley again coming off the frontwall or let it bounce once

here's the example of letting the ball bounce once

it's a great drill to encourage movement as good positioning is crucial to make this drill work

kids need to be positioned precisely next to the ball to be able to hit it hard enough for the ball to rebound off the front wall

Squashcannon: with the foot, stop the ball coming off the sidewalll

kids have to stop the ball with their foot coming off the sidewall

it works better if you invent a story around it like crushing insects (balls)....

it's another drill to improve judging the bounce of the ball and something different than another catching exercise.

judging the bounce of the ball is the key factor when starting out with squash

it's good to use the legs as well for a more well-rounded motor development training

stopping the ball, either with the racquet or the foot, requires very good timing

Squashcannon: aiming for target off a deep cross court under time pressure

kids try to aim for a target when their under pressure and retrieving a cross-court coming off the

 sidewall

have students return to the middle of the court inbetween shots, decrease the intervall settings to add pressure

to be able to hit the target on the frontwall, kids should move to a favorable position rather than adjusting their swing

once the target is hit, decrease the size of the target
