Squashcannon: positioning drill to hit strait off cross coming off the sidewall
- Player Age:
goal for students in this drill is to return a cross-court coming off the sidewall strait down the wall. Adjust the speed to use it for higher level players.
initially players tend to follow the ball which leaves them too close to the ball , often pulling it to the middle
you can see how the student opens up his body when hitting as he is too close
this is the common pattern of beginner players that should be avoided, following the ball toward the sidewall then moving away again
the reason is misjuging the bounce of the ball which is part of starting out the game of squash.
the advantage of using the squashcannon with the same bounce every time is to be able to speed up that learning process of correctly judging the bounce of the ball.
the correct path goes more through the middle to then be able to step into the shot or maintain a balance
players also need to learn to move next to the ball to consistently be able to hit the ball strait
better position here with enough space and to the side of the ball
here student moves too far behind the ball and the ball ends up in the middle of the court
student doesn't move far enough back with the ball hitting the sidewall first, also ending up in the middle
